I Have Asthma

Who's in control…you or your asthma? Have you learned to put up with frequent symptoms? Are you in the habit of avoiding certain places or activities because of your asthma? It's easy to think you are controlling your asthma, when in fact, it's controlling you.

What should you expect? When YOU control asthma you should...
  • Be symptom-free all or most of the time
  • Enjoy being physically active without having asthma symptoms
  • Not miss school or work because of asthma symptoms
  • Sleep through the night without asthma symptoms
If you need to use your albuterol inhaler—sometimes called a "rescue" or "quick relief" inhaler—more than twice a week to treat asthma symptoms (except to prevent symptoms triggered by exercise), it may mean that your asthma is poorly controlled. See your healthcare professional.
